Another of Brilvitch's statements, that "private restoration activity which (was) already underway (promised) to make the area again a model of nineteenth century urban design" has unfortunately proven terribly wrong. This area has deteriorated considerably in the past six years. Although the major physical components of the park remain intact, its neighborhood no longer appears to be a stable one. East Bridgeport in the past several years has acquired a reputation as a dangerous area for drug dealing and frequent shootings. As long as the neighborhood continues to deteriorate, the park's future cannot be said to be a safe one.
