Large flags were paraded and hoisted from the flagpole in observance of Flag Celebration Day. Flag Day originated in 1885 as a day for celebrating and learning about the flag and is still celebrated on June 14. In the rear is the New Haven City Hall, designed by Henry Austin and built in 1862.
