Winchester Center Green

The Winchester Center Green, located within the Winchester Center Local Historic District, is a triangular greensward at the center of a rural, residential community. The center is at a high elevation and from the east end of the green there is a beautiful view to the southwest over other high hilltops. Mature maple trees are planted along the borders of the green and a tall conifer, tradition has it, marks the place of the first meetinghouse. It is otherwise without monuments or other ornaments.

Winchester has a very gracious, rural appearance. Stone fences line several of the roads that intersect the green and open fields dominated the landscape. It is quiet, but active as 228 residents collect their mail from the tiny post office at the back of the lamp museum.
