Warren Green

The Warren Green is a compact, triangular piece of land, approximately 160' x 150' x 65' located in the right-of-way of State Route 45. The green is part of a four-way intersection where 45 bends to the north as Cornwall Road, splitting from Route 341, or Kent Road, which continues to the west to Warren's parent town of Kent. The fourth leg of the intersection is formed by Sackett Hill Road, which enters from the south, down the slope of an open, grassy hill occupied by the Warren Congregational Church, the Town Hall, town library, garage, and other buildings. The green is owned by the State, although it is sometimes maintained by the town, according to town officials. It is primarily grass, with simple asphalt curbing and modest plantings of evergreens, and some large maples near Route 45. The green slopes northward, with a level area at its base facing north. Near its northwest corner is a memorial marker and a flagpole. The three-foot-high marker is of rusticated stone and bears the inscription "This Memorial Stands in Honor of All the Men and Women Who Served Our Country In Time of War." Nearby are American Legion markers and flags. A drain angles diagonally into a catch basin a few feet in front of the marker. Facing the west side of the green is Warren's small commercial center, comprising a general store, a package store, a television repair shop, and a real estate office.
