Salisbury Public Green
|
|
Today all that can be identified as a green from the .75 acre that was originally set aside as common land is a small rectangle bounded by Academy Street on the north; a 19th century dwelling converted to a doctor's office on the east; the Congregational Church on the south and Main Street on the west. The large, post-modern town hall across from the green dominates the street. To the north of it and across the street from the remnant of the church yard is another reminder of the original common; the entrance to the old cemetery where a large stone war memorial shaped like a tablet is located. The church yard is somewhat uneven and is dominated by a mature deciduous tree. The Connecticut Historical Commission Town sign is located near Main Street beside a smaller tree. Visually, the area has little impact and is only important as a historic space.
