The dominant feature of the Green at Waterside Lane is unquestionably the view to the salt marsh adjoining Long Island Sound, which forms the southern boundary. The northern boundary is defined by Waterside Lane, a quiet residential street with several 18th-century homes. The green comes to a point at the east and west ends.
In the middle of the green is a cannon, set on a stone base, which points toward Long Island Sound. The cannon has a long and illustrious history (see History). Behind the cannon is a wooden bench set within brick paving. A second bench is to the west of the cannon. Both benches offer wonderful views of the Sound.
Several large shade trees adorn the green, with vegetation being very dense in some places along the shoreline toward the west end.
To the west of the property is the Old Harbor Marina. A vintage tugboat lies moored at the east side of the marina, adjacent to the green.
To the east of the green is a historic bridge, which has been recently renovated to make it compatible with 20th-century automobile traffic. The bridge is reputed to be from the 18th century.
