Eastford Green

The small Eastford Green, triangular in shape, is bounded by Old Colony Road (on the west and north), Eastford Road (Route 198, on the east), and by the Ivy Glenn Memorial building and property (town-owned) on the south. Around the green are scattered buildings dating primarily from the 19th century, used for residential or commercial purposes. Most of the buildings are wood-framed and clapboarded; the notable exception is Bowen's Garage, across Eastford Road to the east, which was built c. 1920 of cast concrete block construction. The green and environs form the center of Eastford Village, a small community from which rolling open fields are easily in view.

The grassy green has a slight depression in the middle and appears well maintained. At the south end is a tall flagpole and a large boulder with three bronze plaques honoring Eastford residents who served in various military conflicts. Of the two plaques on the north side of the boulder, one honors veterans of the American Revolution, War of 1812, and Mexican, Civil and Spanish-American wars; the other is a 1917-1918 Honor Roll. The plaque on the south side is a 1941-1945 Honor Roll. To the sides and rear of the boulder is landscaping of shrubs (rhododendrons and junipers) and flower beds. Near the center of the green is the town historical marker (placed in cooperation with the Connecticut Historical Commission as part of American Revolution bicentennial festivities), and along the Eastford Road border are a few large trees and two telephone poles. The apex at the north end displays a clutter of traffic signs.
