This rural greenspace is bounded by Connecticut State Route 43, Beaver Brook, and Ford Hill Road. The space is dominated by the Sedgwick Stele, a monument to General Sedgwick of Cornwall Hollow. In front of the monument is a mounted howitzer that was with Sedgwick in the Mexican and Civil wars. Missing from the monument is a bronze medallion portrait of Sedgwick by James J. Hawley. A pyramid of 25 cannonballs is mounted on each corner of the monument.
South of the monument is a wooden flagpole, thought to date from Civil War days. North of the monument is a small plaque beneath a maple tree, which reads, "This Tree Planted by Cornwall School Children in Memory of Major General John Sedgwick, May 20, 1950. A row of large granite blocks separates the green from the adjacent property, the former Cornwall Hollow Baptist Church.
Many beautiful trees grace the site. Hemlock and apple trees define the western boundary and a large maple tree is north of the monument.
South of the site is the Cornwall Hollow Baptist Church. This Greek Revival building, built in 1820, is now privately owned and used as a community building. Across Route 43 is the Cornwall Hollow Cemetery, established in 1793. General Sedgwick is buried here.
